|
The club was founded in 1991 with a group of local parents getting together to provide somewhere for their children to play organised football.
In the first year the club attracted around 15 players and in the 19 years it has been running it has grown rapidly to currently having membership of over 550 members.
This includes approximately 60 adult players following a recent amalgamation with Salts Football Club.
All senior teams are now to be known as Salts FC.
Salts FC seniors have an 80 year history from the days when they were financed and managed by Salts Mill owner Sir Titus Salt so we felt that this historic name needed to be preserved.
It was also very important to Shipley Juniors that the Junior name was also preserved.
This season 2010/11 the club will be running -
14 - Shipley Juniors 7-a-side teams
17 - Shipley Juniors 11-a-side boys teams
1 - Shipley Juniors 11-a-side girls teams
2 - Salts FC Saturday mens teams
1 - Salts FC Sunday mens team
1 - Salts FC Ladies team
1 - Salts FC Veterans team
The club has also an Under 6's section with the emphasis been on fun and trying to teach the players the basics.
For the juniors it gives a total 'club for life' meaning they can start at 5 years old and play right through the juniors and step straight into the senior football.
Both clubs feel this is a very positive move forwards.
The club became one of the first F.A Chartermark clubs in the district receiving the award in December 2001 following a lot of hard work to put together all the policies to comply with the criteria.
The clubs next step was to gain 'F.A Charter Development Club' in 2003 and it achieved this in July 2003.
We have now attained F.A Chartered Community Club status, which we achieved in 2009 and makes us one of the few clubs in the district to have this award.
In 2007/2008 Shipley juniors were very proud to be awarded the Development Club of the year awarded by the West Riding County FA, recognition that we felt we deserved.
The club also offers and encourages new managers and coaches the chance to attend the 'F.A Level 1' course as soon as possible and then the Level 2.
The club currently has -
64 - Level 1 coaches
6 - Level 2 coaches.
1 - FA Level 3 Youth coach
5 - Adult Level 1 coaches
We also try to send coaches on other courses and coaching demos and full details can be viewed in the 'our coaches' section of website.
Our coaches are required to become CRB (criminal records bureau) checked in line with child protection policies.
The club is involved in a foreign exchange and hosts players from the German team of Aplerbeck which is a district of Dortmund. The players host at U12 and travel to Germany at U13.
This exchange has been going for 10 years.
The clubs main fundraising events is the annual Shipley Juniors 5-a-side tournament which is held at Sandals Primary School in Baildon.
